– Like a pioneer –

Explore the world and discover new cultures like the pioneers did, just about 400 years ago. The first pioneers settled in Plymouth, disembarking from the Mayflower. They coasted an unknown land after weeks of navigation. This led to the celebration of Thanksgiving. It began as a day of giving thanks and sacrifice for the blessing of the harvest of the land.

Although Thanksgiving has historical roots in religious and cultural traditions, it has long been celebrated as a secular holiday. Nevertheless, prayers of thanks and special thanksgiving ceremonies are common among many religions after harvests.

A tradition is held in New York City since 1924. It’s the glorious Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. This parade features parade floats with specific themes, performances from Broadway musicals, large balloons of cartoon characters, and TV personalities. The float that traditionally ends the Macy’s Parade is the Santa Claus float. And so it marks the arrival of an unofficial sign of the beginning of the Christmas season. It is billed as the world’s largest parade. The oldest Thanksgiving parade is the Philadelphia’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Launched in 1920, it takes place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

American Football is an important part of many Thanksgiving celebrations in the United States. So families gather watching games on television. Did you know the earliest era of this sport exists since the late 19th century?

– Traditional turkey –

And what would be Thanksgiving without its traditional turkey with the friends and family reunions? Therefore, travel reaches its highest peak in the United States during this moment, far greater than during the Christmas holidays. Since 1947, the National Turkey Federation has presented the President of the United States with one live turkey and two dressed turkeys. This ceremony is known as the National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation. John F. Kennedy was the first president reported to spare the turkey given to him. He then said he did not plan to eat the bird! Ronald Reagan was the first to grant the turkey a presidential pardon. The turkey was then sent to a petting zoo.
